Emmi opens new cheese facility in the USA

Lucerne/Stoughton - Emmi has opened a new cheese processing facility in the US state of Wisconsin. The Lucerne-based dairy manufacturer is further expanding its presence in North America and creating additional sales opportunities for imported Swiss cheese.

Emmi has opened a new site in Stoughton, Wisconsin, through its American subsidiary Emmi Roth. At the new facility, the dairy manufacturer plans to process and package cheese across an area of over 14,600 square meters.

The aim of the new site is to strengthen Emmi's position in the American market for speciality cheeses, as explained in a statement. Emmi also intends to use the investment to create additional sales opportunities for imported Swiss cheese. According to Emmi, the company already operates three production facilities in the state of Wisconsin. The acquisition of the Athenos feta cheese brand in 2021 increased requirements for processing and distribution capacity, says the company.

By processing and packaging cheese internally, Emmi can simplify the logistics process, according to the statement. This enables the company to reduce its transport routes by half, thereby saving CO2. Furthermore, the plant is powered by electrical energy and operates in a resource-friendly way.
