Zelsius and HSLU to provide SMEs with insights into climate reporting

Root/Lucerne - The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) will update SMEs about climate reporting on February 18 in addition to presenting the digital emissions calculator developed by its spin-off Zelsius. Their method is designed to support in particular smaller companies.

Zelsius AG, a spin-off from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) headquartered at Technopark Luzern in Root, will be presenting its digital method of greenhouse gas accounting on February 18 during an event hosted by HSLU. This method is based on ISO standard 14064 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. HSLU and Zelsius have been working together on the development of this emissions calculator since 2023, with the aim of supporting Swiss SMEs active in MEM industries.

In his speech, HSLU lecturer Daniel Peter will explain that climate accounting is also important for small and medium-sized companies. He will offer insights into current and future reporting obligations in Switzerland and the EU.

In a statement, Zelsius firstly refers to the ban on greenwashing as part of the amended Unfair Competition Act in Switzerland. According to this, advertising claims in relation to attributes such as sustainable and climate neutral may no longer be used without objective and verifiable evidence with effect from January 1, 2025. Secondly, since January 1, 2024, larger Swiss companies have been required to report on climate issues, which also has an indirect impact on small suppliers, Zelsius explains.

In addition, the Federal Council, the Swiss federal government, is currently weighing up whether an obligation of this kind should be extended to smaller Swiss companies starting in 2026. In so doing, the aim would be to achieve alignment with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which has been in force in the EU since 2022.

The event is set to take place from 6 to 8 pm on February 18 at Technopark Luzern. Those interested in attending are requested to register in advance.
