Watt d'Or honors exceptional achievements in the energy sector

Bern - The Swiss Federal Office of Energy will present the Swiss Energy Award, the Watt d'Or 2023, on January 12. This seal of quality for energy excellence is being awarded to Limeco, the utility company for the Limmat Valley region and 3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG from Bern, in addition to EVTEC AG und sun2wheel AG, among others.

The winners of this year’s Watt d'Or have now been decided. On January 12, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) will present the Swiss Energy Award, which takes the form of a snow globe, to a wide range of businesses and universities. The two Bern-based organizations, Solafrica and Root & Branch, will be awarded a special prize, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the SFOE.

In the Energy Technologies category, the winners of the seal of quality for energy excellence include Azienda Elettrica di Massagno AEM along with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), as well as the companies Hive Power SA from Manno in the canton of Ticino, Optimatik AG from Teufen in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Limeco, the utility company for the Limmat Valley region based in Dietikon in the canton of Zurich. 3S Swiss Solar Solutionas AG from Gwatt (a district of Thun) in the canton of Bern emerged victorious in the Renewable Energies category, while EVTEC AG along with sun2wheel AG from Kriens-Obernau in the canton of Lucerne won out in the Energy Efficient Mobility category. The snow globe in the category of Buildings and Spatial Development goes to the Professorship of Architecture and Building Systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) together with Zurich Soft Robotics GmbH / Solskin.

The Watt d'Or has been awarded by the SFOE since 2007 and does not come with prize money for the winners. Rather, the award is intended to publicize exceptional performance in the energy sector, thereby offering an incentive to business, politics and the general public “to discover for themselves the advantages of innovative energy technologies”, the SFOE writes in the press release. In total, 39 applications were received for this year’s Watt d'Or. The SFOE provides a detailed appraisal of the winning concepts online.
