Visienco establishes presence at Technopark Luzern
Root - Visienco is preparing to launch its platform for the automatic classification of organoids from a new base at Technopark Luzern. The platform aims to facilitate greater efficiency, reproducibility and scalability, in addition to reducing the dependency on animal testing.
Visienco has established a presence at Technopark Luzern. The startup, which was founded at the end of January, is on the cusp of launching its platform for the automatic classification of organoids on the market following a period of three years during which it was supported by the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) based in Alpnach in the canton of Obwalden, Switzerland.
Up to this point, scientists were spending «hours using microscopes and pipettes to analyze and prepare organoid cultures», as Lucie Jandet, co-founder and COO of Visienco, explains in an interview with CSEM. «Our system automates the workflow: Petri dishes containing various organoid types are fed into our platform, which quickly and accurately sorts them using cutting-edge technology». Ultimately, this results in «better efficiency, higher reproducibility, and scalability, enabling researchers to conduct large-scale drug screenings with ease».
Jandet points out that developing a system capable of handling the extensive diversity of brain, liver or eye organoids that also fits seamlessly into the customer’s existing laboratory setups was far from a straightforward task. With the help of the expertise at the disposal of CSEM in relation to organoid technology, optics and microsystems, the founding trio of Lucie Jandet, CEO Edwige Guinet and CTO Jonas Goldowsky has been able to refine and optimize their technology. By 2027, the founders plan to grow the team to ten people.
Following the long-standing collaboration with CSEM, the opportunity to establish a presence at Technopark Luzern felt, in the words of Jandet, «like the perfect fit». Moreover, the startup funding program Zünder reportedly offered key resources and networking opportunities. And last but not least «Lucerne isn’t just a hub for innovation - it’s also a fantastic place to live and work!»
