Technopark Lucerne in Root is a magnet for start-ups. According to the current annual report, several start-ups focusing on future technologies such as blockchain set up shop at Technopark Lucerne last year. In 2018 investment in the 35 companies in the Technopark rose to 8.5 million Swiss francs.

The annual report features a company called ONEBIO, which uses blockchain technology to safely store human medical laboratory data in a database. This is, for example, intended to help with clinical research while safeguarding patient anonymity. ONEBIO CEO Bruno Ehrler especially values the opportunity to interact with other companies at the Technopark Lucerne. In addition, the Technopark offers “everything we need as a start-up”. He also says in an interview in the annual report that the private and public transport connections are very good.

Start-ups such as SensDRB, which is developing the medically approved wristband SmartCuff that measures and processes the medical data of older people and reports them to the appropriate bodies if neccessary, are also based in the Technopark. The wristband is intended to enable pensioners to live in their own homes without care for longer. “We appreciate the infrastructure and the business network here that promote start-ups such as SensDRB “, says SensDRB CEO Diego Barrettino about Technopark Lucerne.

Technopark Lucerne is funded via contributions from partner club and association members as well as public money. According to the annual report, it was able to recruit other partners last year. For example, it acquired the insurer Helvetia and the cable car builder Garaventa as gold and silver partners respectively. The Technopark has also concluded two new financing partnerships with Zürcher Kantonalbank and Seedcapital Invest from Sempach LU.

As far as the Technopark’s financial results are concerned, it made a profit last year of 6295 Swiss francs.
