Talnets supporting South African football clubs with data analytics for talent ID

Root/Johannesburg - Talnets is helping a junior football league in South Africa to quickly and objectively identify talented players. The data-driven Talnets platform to support clubs with scouting and development was presented at the Business of Football Conference in Johannesburg.

Talnets AG, which is headquartered at Technopark Luzern, has become a pioneering force in South African youth football. In his presentation at the Business of Football Conference in Johannesburg, Kelvin Watt, CEO of SuperSport Schools, outlined the value his organization’s partnership with Talnets brings to scouting promising young players within the network of the South African Football Association (SAFA).

The data-based platform developed by Talnets for the quick and objective identification of young talents was introduced by the Gauteng Development League (GDL), which is administered by the SAFA. Youth teams from the South African province of Gauteng compete against each other in this junior league, with Talnets brought in to analyze video footage of the players on the basis of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addition to recording their qualities on player statistics cards.

This allows GDL member clubs to gain vital insights that allow them to make well-founded scouting decisions and to promote promising young players in a targeted manner, according to an article by Technopark Luzern. The impressive comparability of the performance metrics means that GDL clubs can easily present their talented youngsters to international scouts. As a result, the Talnets ecosystems is said to offer a platform for global attention.

«The Talnets platform supports match analytics, early talent ID and even player transfers with AI-driven insights», as the Technopark article explains. The platform is therefore described as a «user-friendly, innovative solution» for «clubs, leagues and associations looking for advanced tools to support scouting and development».
