Scratch Challenge reaches 50 schools

Lucerne/Goldau - Around 1,200 students from 50 schools took part in the Scratch Challenge organized by the Colleges of Education in Lucerne and Schwyz as well as the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). The children and young people developed algorithmic artworks using a specially developed software solution.

The Colleges of Education in Lucerne and Schwyz, in addition to the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology at HSLU, organized the fourth edition of the Scratch Challenge in May and June. This year, around 1,200 students ranging from 5th grade primary school through to the first level of secondary education took part in the competition, as the College of Education Schwyz writes in a press release. In the Scratch Challenge, groups of participants create their own algorithmic artworks using the Scratch programming environment, which was specially developed for children and young people.

In this context, participants not only implement creative ideas, but are also tasked with solving challenging programming issues. Over 400 works of art were created in this year’s Scratch Challenge. A jury of experts from the worlds of media and IT selected the projects with particularly innovative approaches and outstanding implementation.

Preparations for the next Scratch Challenge are already in full swing. It is expected to take place in May next year, according to the press release.
