Schurter plans sustainability adjustments

Lucerne - Schurter’s Sustainability Report 2023 presents the current status of the company’s efforts in this area. Sustainability is anchored across all areas of the global manufacturer of electrical components. On account of the change of ownership at the start of 2023, the objectives and orientation are to be reviewed.

With its Sustainability Report 2023, Schurter has reported on its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations the third year in a row. In a roadmap drawn up three years ago, the global manufacturer of electrical components defined a binding pathway for the four sustainability dimensions of personnel and leadership, products and materials, production and infrastructure, and partners and supply chain. The latest report provides information on the status of the company’s efforts in these areas and what still needs to be done to achieve its goals.

«The year 2023 was characterized by a slowdown in the electronics market», as Group CEO Lars Brickenkamp writes in the introduction to the report. Moreover, Schurter’s decision to sell a majority stake in the company to the investment firm Capvis at the start of 2023 signaled the onset of «phase of change». As a result, the global organization «is being optimized and aligned with future market needs».

According to Brickenkamp, this will also have an impact on Schurter’s commitments in the area of sustainability. In this context, sustainability activities are to be continued this year «as far as the change projects allow». However, it is conceivable that some of the aims outlined in the roadmap will not be achieved within the originally envisaged time frame, as the Group CEO goes on to explains. «We plan to review our sustainability goals and focus in 2025 and adapt them to the newly established organization on a case-by-case basis».
