Schurter offers switch with highest IP protection class

Lucerne - Schurter has subjected its MSS electronic switch to testing for the highest protection class. The result is that the MSS is now certified in accordance with IP6K9K. This protection class stands for absolute impermeability against dust and high-pressure or steam jet cleaning.

The MSS electronic switch from Schurter has passed the IP6K9K protection class test, as the Lucerne-based company, which specializes in the development and production of electrical and electronic components, has now announced in a press release. Schurter put the switch through its paces in this complex, time-consuming and expensive test by an independent testing laboratory in response to customer requests, as the press release explains. The MSS switch met the requirements for the highest protection class and passed the test with flying colors, Schurter writes.

When Schurter launched its MSS family of switches two years ago, the company «very cautiously specified the IP protection class of the MSS family as IP67 in accordance with IEC 60529», as the company writes in the press release. However, several customers have expressed a desire for the absolute highest protection class IP6K9K. This certifies that the switch is now totally impermeable to dust and protected against contact as well as against water during high-pressure/steam jet cleaning even at high temperatures.
