Lucerne – The Lucerne lift and escalator manufacturer Schindler and Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica have joined forces. In this partnership, Telefónica will be providing the connectivity solutions for Schindler’s smart lifts and escalators.

The smart lifts and escalators created by Schindler are connected to a cloud-based digital platform. This is a fully digital closed loop maintenance, emergency services and information system. Using artificial intelligence (AI), it facilitates predictive maintenance, improving overall equipment reliability and delivering insights for better building operation, Schindler and Telefónica reported in a press release.

According to the press release, Telefónica is a recognized leader in solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). In the context of this partnership, the Spanish company will provide its managed connectivity platform Kite, which allows centralized, real-time visibility and management of connectivity for lifts and escalators.

“This partnership reinforces our commitment to delivering high quality and innovative digital solutions to our customers by collaborating with a global leader in IoT connectivity,” commented Markus Staudenmann, Head of Commercial at the Schindler Digital Group. “Telefónica shares our vision of the incredible possibilities of IoT and how it can improve mobility in an increasingly urbanized world.”
