Romoos Named "Best Tourism Village" 2024 by UN World Tourism
Lucerne - Romoos has officially joined the ranks of the world’s best tourism villages. The UN World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) recognized the Entlebuch village for its sustainable tourism approach and commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
The UN World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has awarded Romoos the title of "Best Tourism Village" 2024, celebrating communities that balance tourism success with cultural tradition. Switzerland nominated two villages, Romoos LU and Splügen GR, which were selected from nearly 260 global applications.
The award ceremony took place from November 13 to 15, 2024, in Cartagena, Colombia. Richard Kämpf from SECO accepted the award on behalf of Romoos, which now joins the ranks of other distinguished Swiss villages, such as Andermatt and Saas-Fee. Along with international recognition, the award brings worldwide media coverage and added visibility to the winning villages.
Sandro Bucher, Head of Tourism and Mobility for the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, expressed pride in this recognition and the strong local commitment: “Romoos promotes gentle tourism and actively preserves its cultural heritage.” The nomination was supported by the community and featured a video showcasing the mystical Napf mountains of Romoos.
On November 29, Romoos will celebrate the award with its community and tourism partners. This international recognition highlights the success of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch's tourism master plan and reinforces Romoos’s position as a sustainable and culturally rich destination.
