Rast Kaffee moves into new premises
Ebikon - Rast Kaffee can now be found at Industriestrasse 4 in Ebikon in the canton of Lucerne. Situated in the immediate vicinity of the old location, the company now has more space for its roastery, shop and academy. In addition, the new Rast Kaffee premises are more sustainable too.
Rast Kaffee may have moved into new premises, although it has not left Ebikon behind. The coffee roastery is now located at Industriestrasse 4, as the company, which is under fourth-generation family management, writes on its website. Rast Kaffee is holding an open day at its new site on August 24.
The background to the decision to move into new premises was outlined in the newspaper «Luzerner Zeitung». As co-director Evelyne Rast explained in the newspaper’s report: «Sustainable company development was simply no longer possible in our old building». At the new premises, sustainability is a priority – as it is for the company itself. The new site is better insulated and the roastery is now powered by electricity generated by photovoltaic installations.
Family member and architect Thomas Rast came up with the design for the new premises. The roastery itself does not take up any more space in the new building than at the old location. Rather, the aim was rather to «ensure mixed use», as Thomas Rast explains. At the old site, the Rast Kaffee Academy was located immediately adjacent to the roastery, which is why «it used to be so hot and loud», Evelyne Rast comments. Today, the various training programs offered by Rast Kaffee, such as barista courses for interested members of the public or training courses for the hotel management school, take place in more pleasant surroundings.
