Michelin Guide recognizes four hotels in Lucerne and the surrounding region

Lucerne - For the first time, the Michelin Guide has awarded Key distinctions to hotels. The Mandarin Oriental Palace in the city of Lucerne has been recognized with two Keys. In the surrounding region, the Bürgenstock Resort has three Keys, Park Hotel Vitznau has two Keys and Hotel Vitznauerhof has one Key.

This year, the Michelin Guide is giving awards to outstanding hotels, alongside its stars for exclusive restaurants. The symbolic awards take the form of one, two or three Keys, representing a very special stay, an exceptional stay and an extraordinary stay respectively.

One hotel in the city of Lucerne has received two Keys: the Mandarin Oriental Palace Lucerne. The Michelin Guide describes the five-star hotel and Belle Époque landmark as a «lakeside stunner». Renovation work has restored it «to its 1906 glory», giving it «a great deal more personality than the typical contemporary luxury hotel.»

The Michelin Guide recognizes three other hotels in the region, including the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, located high above the lake in Obbürgen, canton of Nidwalden. The complex comprising four luxury hotels, residences and sports facilities is one of nine resorts in Switzerland to be awarded three Keys. A nine-year renovation process was completed in 2017, bringing the 1873 hotel up to the very latest standards. The Michelin Guide says the resort, which boasts over 100 luxury suites, «makes a genuine getaway».

The Parkhotel Vitznau received two Keys. Built in 1903 and reopened in 2013 after four years of renovations, the lakeside building looks like a fairytale castle, says the Michelin Guide. Its 47 luxury suites and residences «serve as an excellent basecamp» for winter sports destinations in central Switzerland. It also has a two-Michelin-starred restaurant.

Finally, Hotel Vitznauerhof was awarded one Key. The Guide says this «ornate building» dating back to 1901 has been «carefully restored» and now features an «elegant interior», its own lido, «very good service» and a therapeutic spa.
