Meggen is the most attractive community in Switzerland
Zurich - Meggen in the Swiss canton of Lucerne has come first in the community ranking of the Swiss weekly newspaper Handelszeitung. Another municipality in Lucerne comes in third place: Oberkirch. Hergiswil in the canton of Nidwalden took second place. The ranking compares all Swiss communities with more than 2,000 inhabitants.
Meggen came first in this year’s community ranking by Handelszeitung. The top three also included another community from the canton of Lucerne as Oberkirch came in third place. The Nidwalden community of Hergiswil completed the podium in second place.
Around 1,000 Swiss municipalities with more than 2,000 inhabitants were compared for the ranking. The corresponding report states that those with fewer residents are difficult to compare. Handelszeitung assessed all the factors that are important when deciding on a place to live as criteria for the attractiveness of a community.
The report mentions the level of taxes, real estate prices, safety, and community location, as well as the offering of schools, care institutes, and shopping facilities as examples of some of the 51 factors considered. Public statistics and real estate price models from the real estate services specialist Iazi AG were used as the data basis. The study author Donato Scognamiglio, Co-Founder and Member of the Board of Directors of Iazi, commented in the report: «The main factors for a top position are low taxes, proximity to the center, and a lake.»
The town of Zug and the community of Baar, both in the canton of Zug, came in first place last year. This year, they have fallen to fourth and fifth place. Several major cities suffered significant losses versus the prior year, including the city of Zurich, falling from 45th to 54th place. Bern dropped from 199th to 491st place and Basel from 93rd to 486th.
