Mandarin Oriental Palace officially reopens

Lucerne/Hong Kong - The exclusive Hotel Mandarin Oriental Palace in Lucerne has celebrated its reopening. It has undergone a comprehensive, elaborate renovation over three years.

The five-star hotel Mandarin Oriental Palace from the Belle Epoque has reopened at the end of September. It was closed for five years. After three years of extensive renovation works, guests can now stay at this exclusive building on the edge of Lake Lucerne once again.

According to a press release, the ceremonial reopening was attended by the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, the hotel’s general manager, Christian Wildhaber, and the Chinese ambassador Shi Ting Wang. Furthermore, the event was visited by Lucerne’s city councilor Franziska Bitzi, and distinguished representatives from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group based in Hong Kong, which manages the building.

The owner is the Chinese entrepreneur Yunfeng Gao. The characteristic building constructed in 1906 also aims to attract the most important guest group of Asian travelers. According to the operating company: “The hotel is poised to become Lucerne’s most exclusive venue”.

The Mandarin Oriental Palace was renovated and furnished by Iwan Bühler architects from Lucerne and London-based interior designer Jestico Whiles in accordance with cultural heritage. It has more than 136 guest rooms, including 48 of the largest suites in the city, as well as a spa and events spaces. Additionally, the hotel has four restaurants and bars under the management of Michelin chef Gilad Peled.
