Mandarin Oriental Palace luxury hotel to reopen in Lucerne

Lucerne - The tradition-steeped Hotel Palace Luzern is reopening its doors on September 24 under the ownership of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. The Hong Kong-based hotel group has been renovating the historic building over the past three years.

The former Hotel Palace Luzern is set to reopen as the Mandarin Oriental Palace on September 24 following a comprehensive renovation project. Mandarin Oriental, an international hotel group based in Hong Kong, will operate the building situated on the banks of Lake Lucerne as a luxurious 5-star hotel, further details of which can be found in a press release. A total of 136 rooms and suites will be on offer.

The press release explains that the company has painstakingly restored the listed Belle Époque building together with the Lucerne-based architects Iwan Bühler Architekten and  Jestico + Whiles, an interior design agency from London.

“The overall stunning result is also a tribute to the Swiss entrepreneur Franz Josef Bucher who realized his dream of a Mediterranean retreat when he originally built the house in 1906”, the press release explains. Accordingly, the surrounding landscape and Mediterranean colors are reflected in the interior design.

The hotel has two suites with panoramic roof terraces from which guests have a 360-degree view of Lake Lucerne and the Alps. There is also a 133 square meter Presidential Suite and numerous guest rooms with a balcony or terrace.

Guests can enjoy a meal in one of four restaurants overseen by the Michelin-starred chef Giland Peled. Two of the restaurants will open a little after the hotel reopens in the first quarter of 2023.

In addition to a spa area, the hotel also offers spacious rooms such as the Salon Alpine with its original Belle Époque decor from 1906 and the Edelweiss ballroom that offers a view over Lake Lucerne. Moreover, there is a garden in which celebrations, conferences and other events can be held.
