Lucerne - An Italian group from the economy, research, and media took part in the Swiss Innovation Tour 2024 specializing in logistics and automation. The program in Lucerne included information on the canton’s innovativeness and a visit to the elevator manufacturer Schindler.

Italian entrepreneurs, academics, and journalists found out about outstanding Swiss companies and projects in the fields of logistics and automation at the Swiss Innovation Tour 2024. It was hosted by the cantonal promotion offices of LucerneTicino, and Uri. The three-day trip was supported by the Greater Zurich Area, the location marketing organization for the economic region of Zurich, and Switzerland Global Enterprise, the official Swiss organization for export and location promotion.

In Lucerne, the group first witnessed a presentation about the canton’s potential. According to a report in Italian from the international Swiss digital magazine, Innovando News, this highlighted the most innovative resources available to companies, in particular those in the fields of logistics and automation. It goes on to state that the region is establishing itself «as a competence center for innovation and is attracting investments and skilled workers from across the world, not only because of its generous tax policy.«»

The participants were also guests at the elevator company Schindler, an international supplier of mobility solutions for buildings. There, they learned about the enterprise’s smart elevators, integrated mobility systems, and R.I.S.E., the world’s first self-climbing, autonomous robotic system, which can perform installations in a lift shaft.

In Ticino, the group visited Interroll, a global provider of material flow solutions, as well as the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). There, Andrea Emilio Rizzoli, Director of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence, presented current artificial intelligence and big data analysis projects.
