Lehner Versand acquires VEDIA

Schenkon/Geneva - Lehner Versand is to take over the Geneva-based VEDIA. In so doing, the family-led company, which is headquartered in the canton of Lucerne, is seeking to bolster its presence across Western Switzerland. Moreover, VEDIA’s mail order business will ensure full capacity utilization at Lehner's new warehouse infrastructure in Schenkon.

Lehner Versand AG has announced the acquisition of the Geneva-based VEDIA SA. According to a press release, both parties agreed not to disclose the financial details of the takeover. With effect from October 1, the operating business of VEDIA will be transferred to the family-run trading company based in Schenkon in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

The mail order company VEDIA employs approximately 50 staff. Lehner Versand intends to take on a portion of the workforce, especially employees in customer service, procurement and sales roles. VEDIA’s logistics department is to be relocated to the headquarters in Schenkon by the end of 2024, while the VEDIA store in Geneva will remain open for the time being.

By bolstering its presence in western Switzerland, Lehner Versand is continuing its strategy of moderate growth in the fiercely competitive Swiss online and distance retail sector. According to the information, the VEDIA brand will continue to stand for «unique and original products», while Lehner Versand will bring its «state-of-the-art logistics infrastructure» to the table.

Furthermore, the takeover will facilitate a diversification of the product portfolio of the brand, which is deeply rooted in Switzerland, says CEO and co-owner Thomas Meier. «It will also help to increase our parcel volume and therefore ensure full capacity utilization of our new warehouse infrastructure».
