The owner-managed valve specialist GEMÜ has announced plans to expand its production site in Emmen in the canton of Lucerne. As the globally operating German company states, the plant has reached its capacity limits due to the growth experienced in recent years. Since first moving into the site in 2012, a total of 250 employees have been manufacturing high-quality plastic solutions for the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries.
The first stage of the plant expansion project is scheduled to be completed in 2029. «The fact that GEMÜ has decided to pursue this development in Emmen represents both a confirmation of and positive signal for Emmen as a business location and the local framework conditions», comments Carmen Sanchez, who heads up the Marketing/Economic Development department of Emmen, in a press release published on the municipality’s website.
The plant expansion project is dependent on the company acquiring a plot of land situated adjacent to the site to the north. This is an agricultural zone owned by the Roman Catholic parish of Emmen, which will make a final decision on the planned sale of the plot later this year. The site would then have to be converted into a business zone. GEMÜ, the parish and the municipality of Emmen have drawn up a planning agreement that is ready to be signed.
GEMÜ is keen to continue playing its part in the further development of Emmen as a business location in the future, comments Gert Müller, Managing Director of the GEMÜ Group. Moreover, Raimund Bislin, CEO of GEMÜ GmbH Switzerland, adds: «With our plant expansion, our aim is to open up extra space for our growth and offer interesting, sustainable jobs to up to 350 employees in Emmen». In 2024, GEMÜ has also been recognized by «Wirtschaftswoche» magazine for the eighth time in a row and honored with the «Global Market Leader Champion» seal of quality.
