Geistlich receives EU certification for Chondro-Gide
Wolhusen LU - Geistlich Pharma has received MDR certification for its Chondro-Gide collagen membrane and therefore complies with EU regulations. The product is used for cartilage regeneration in orthopedics.
Geistlich Pharma has received MDR (Medical Device Regulation) certification for the European market for its Chondro-Gide collagen membrane. The product has been used for 25 years for cartilage regeneration in orthopedics. According to a press release issued by Geistlich Pharma in Wolhusen in the canton of Lucerne, the company recently received notification that the product had been awarded MDR certification by TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH.
This important approval ensures that the collagen membrane in orthopedics will continue to benefit patients across Europe, as the press release explains further. “Our long-standing commitment to science, close collaboration with clinicians and clinical evidence has enabled rapid and efficient MDR approval. The demanding MDR requirements can be challenging for products with limited clinical evidence”, comments Carrie Hartill, Executive Director Regenerative Technologies at Geistlich.
Chondro-Gide was first launched on the market in 1999. According to Geistlich, it has proven to be an effective product for cartilage regeneration, as evidenced by more than 140 publications. The collagen membrane provides a protective environment that supports the body’s own self-healing powers in the regeneration of human cartilage, for example after suffering injuries to the knee, ankle or hip joint.
The two-layer structure of the membrane optimally supports the healing and regeneration of damaged cartilage tissue, as the press release explains.
