Geistlich Pharma expanding in Wolhusen

Wolhusen - Geistlich Pharma is expanding its research and production site in Wolhusen in the canton of Lucerne. In the first stage, the international company will invest between 30 million and 40 million Swiss francs in a new manufacturing and logistics building. It will create between 50 and 80 new jobs over the next five years.

Geistlich Pharma from Lucerne is planning to expand its research and production site in Wolhusen, as the international subsidiary of the Geistlich Group based in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich reported in a press release. Geistlich Pharma develops and produces biomaterials for dentistry, orthopedics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The company is expanding to increase capacity for a projected growth in volume.

Geistlich Pharma writes that the family-company intends to fund everything from its own resources. Site development is being designed on a modular basis. In the first stage, a new manufacturing and logistics building is planned. Geistlich Pharma will invest between 30 million and 40 million francs in the construction project called The Hub. When it is completed in 2026, The Hub will bring all cleanroom, packaging and logistics processes under one roof.

“With the planned development of our site, we want to meet growing demand and have the ability to respond flexibly to market changes,” said Geistlich’s CEO Ralf Halbach. “The design of The Hub is currently being worked on and should be submitted for planning permission by the end of the year.” The company intends to create between 50 and 80 new jobs in the next five years.
