Galliker wins Watt d'Or for mobility

Altishofen/Bern - Galliker Transport AG has been awarded the Watt d'Or energy prize in the category of Energy-Efficient Mobility. The Lucerne-based logistics firm was recognized for its e-power tunnel developed in conjunction with partners.

Matica AG from Kaltenbach in the canton of Thurgau together with the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, ewb in partnership with Lubera AG based in Buchs in the canton of St.Gallen, Galliker Transport AG from Altishofen in the canton of Lucerne and the Basel-based IWB have all been named as winners of the Watt d’Or by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). In what is already the 18th instalment of this competition, trophies in the form of snow globes are awarded in the categories of Energy Technologies, Renewable Energies, Energy-Efficient Mobility and Buildings and Spatial Development.

Galliker Transport AG from Altishofen won the award in the category of Energy-Efficient Mobility. The logistics firm based in the canton of Lucerne earned this recognition on account of its e-power tunnel, which it jointly developed in partnership with Fent AG from Seon in the canton of Aargau, Thomas Lüem Partner AG from Baar in the canton of Zug and CKW AG from Lucerne. The e-power tunnel is capable of charging 28 electric trucks with up to 200kW of power.

The Watt d’Or in the category of Energy Technologies also went to an innovation with input from Lucerne. The snow globe trophy was awarded to the sorption storage heat pump SeasON. The technology developed by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in collaboration with the industrial partner Matica from Kaltenbach is able to store excess solar power in summer by way of a thermo-chemical process without loss to be used as heating in the winter.

The award in the category of Renewable Energies went to the agrivoltaic system built by ewb at Lubera AG in Buchs in the canton of St.Gallen, which can use sunlight to stimulate crop growth as well as for energy production. The mini-heating network of the Basel-based energy company IWB won the Watt d’Or in the Building and Spatial Development category. In total, 40 projects applied for this year’s Watt d'Or, as the SFOE writes in a press release. BFE informed in a press release.
