Construction work to expand CSS headquarters set to begin this year

Lucerne - CSS will submit a building permit application to expand its headquarters in Lucerne at the start of April. The construction works are expected to get underway in the fourth quarter of 2025. The health, accident and property insurance firm intends to move into the new premises by the end of 2027.

CSS plans to start work on extending its headquarters located on Tribschenstrasse in downtown Lucerne in the fourth quarter of this year. The building permit application is set to be lodged in early April, as detailed in a report published by the Swiss daily newspaper «Luzerner Zeitung». The newbuild and renovation of the commercial building, which was acquired by CSS back in 2015, are expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

CSS intends to use almost all of the space in the newbuild and commercial building for its own use, although the ground floor of the commercial building will be home to a bistro. At least for now, CSS has opted not to disclose the costs of this construction project.

The concept for the extension of the CSS headquarters is based on a design developed by Diener und Diener Architekten, a Basel-based architecture office that won out against nine other firms in a competition arranged by CSS. The winning design, known as Lambris, envisages that newly built extension will be linked to the commercial building, which is actually classified as a listed building.
