Auto AG Truck produces green hydrogen
Rothenburg - Auto AG Truck is using solar energy and hydropower to produce its own green hydrogen at its Rothenburg site. This will enable it to provide an initial refuel to commercial vehicles after a repair.
Auto AG Truck has commissioned a pilot plant for the production of green hydrogen at its headquarters in Rothenburg in the canton of Lucerne. According to a press release, it is using solar and hydroelectric power to produce the fuel, which can then be used to provide an initial refuel for trucks and commercial vehicles following a repair or service. Auto AG Truck does not intend to compete with existing gas stations, explains the press release. Producing the fuel directly in its workshop will enable the company to lower expenses and emissions compared with the traditional process of hydrogen delivery and storage.
«By producing our own hydrogen from renewable energy sources, we are showing our firm commitment to a sustainable strategy,» says Marc Ziegler, CEO of Auto AG Truck.
The plant can currently provide an initial refuel of small volumes of hydrogen to three or four vehicles. In future, the company plans to expand the station so that it can provide mileage of 200,000 to 300,000 kilometers a year for three to four vehicles owned by a local truck operator. Auto AG Truck has invested 1 million Swiss francs in the project, which it developed together with GRZ Technologies, a company in which Auto AG Truck holds a stake. It plans to expand its capacities at all eight of its sites.
