Ebikon LU/Melbourne - Schindler is to deliver a total of 73 elevators and 103 escalators as part of a Metro network project in Melbourne. Moreover, the company from the canton of Lucerne is also developing an elevator without a machine room specifically for this project Down Under.
The Metro network in Melbourne is undergoing an expansion. As part of this project, two 9-kilometer-long tunnels and five new stations are to be constructed. The expansion aims to make additional districts of the city accessible by rapid transport, while at the same time connecting places of interest and landmarks to the Metro network. Overall, this is the largest public transport infrastructure project ever realized in the Australian state of Victoria, as detailed in a press release issued by Schindler.
According to information contained in the press release, Schindler is to deliver a total of 73 elevators and 103 escalators for this project. The company based in Ebikon is also developing a new elevator without a machine room for the Melbourne Metro network. This will have a payload of 7,000 kilograms and high-performance doors standing 4 meters high.
With our elevators and escalators, we are making a decisive contribution to guaranteeing reliable and efficient access to the public rapid transport network in Melbourne, comments Thomas Oetterli, CEO of Schindler, in the press release. He adds: We are proud to play a part in this pioneering project for the population of Melbourne.
