AMAG announces finalists in Family Business Award

Cham - Max Zeller Söhne AG, Ryf AG and schaerholzbau AG have made it through to the final of this year’s Family Business Award. The award, which is donated by AMAG, is presented each year to a family company that stands out for its sustainable and value-based approach.

Max Zeller Söhne AG from Romanshorn in the Swiss canton of Thurgau, Ryf AG from Grenchen in the canton of Solothurn, and schaerholzbau AG from Altbüron in the canton of Lucerne are finalists in this year’s Family Business Award, according to an AMAG press release. The group from the canton of Zug, which mainly operates in the automotive sector, presents the award each year to a family-owned company that operates in a particularly sustainable way. This year’s winning company will be announced on September 25 in Bern.

Max Zeller Söhne AG was established 160 years ago as a small pharmacy, and now specializes in the development and manufacture of herbal medicines. Ryf AG is focused on microscopy and measurement systems. Last year, the company established its own CNC production unit in Grenchen for the manufacture of measuring equipment. schaerholzbau AG covers the entire processing chain in timber construction, using timber from forests in the local area.

AMAG established the award in 2012, in memory of company founder Walter Haefner. «Family companies play a unique role in the Swiss economy and society,» says AMAG CEO Helmut Ruhl in the press release. «Building on a solid foundation of values, they keep traditions alive and break new ground with innovative ideas.» With its Family Business Award, AMAG aims to recognize companies «that have offered sustainable solutions for the future over multiple generations,» explains Ruhl. He adds that the jury-selected finalists have «demonstrated this in an impressive manner.»
