MSD Schachen - high-tech development center

Werthenstein BioPharma GmbH is part of Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), a leading and globally active US pharmaceutical company based in Kenilworth, New Jersey.

Our subsidiary in Schachen plays an important role in the provision of new innovative medicines. Around 330 employees from currently 15 nations develop and analyze new biotechnological active ingredients, test new drugs, carry out stability studies and supply drugs for global clinical trials during development.

Our activities are in line with MSD's research priorities and also include therapeutic areas in which MSD already markets products. In addition, MSD operates one of its three forensic laboratories worldwide here in Schachen, where suspected counterfeit MSD products are investigated. We also contribute to the state-of-the-art packaging of clinical trial material and the worldwide distribution of MSD pharmaceutical products. We have been training apprentices in Schachen since 1977 and regularly provide jobs for apprentices who have just completed their training.
