LUKS Group and ETH Zurich move to strengthen cooperation

Lucerne/Zurich - The Luzerner Kantonsspital Gruppe (LUKS Group) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) are seeking to bring medical care, research and teaching more closely together. In this context, joint chairs are also to be established.

The LUKS Group, a hospital group for and owned by the canton of Lucerne, has agreed to deepen collaborative ties in medical research and teaching in partnership with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). According to a press release, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties provides the framework for a variety of future cooperation projects at the interface of medicine, technology and fundamental research.

For the LUKS Group, this partnership with ETH Zurich will offer privileged access to technologies and scientific methods that can help to bring together patient-centric research and data-driven medical care. For ETH Zurich, collaborating with the LUKS Group and other hospitals is the key to advancing biomedical research. «We are striving to bring healthcare and research together in such a way that optimum results can be achieved for patients», comments Professor Christian Wolfrum, Vice President for Research at ETH Zurich, in the press release.

As the press release explains further, the MoU covers in particular research cooperations in the fields of precision technology, digitalized medicine and innovative data science techniques, from pathology all the way through to medical imaging. Moreover, the MoU will contribute to the establishment of joint chairs at both institutions.

«We are making a decisive contribution to bringing together a new generation of doctors and researchers», explains Katrin Hoffmann, Chief Medical Officer of the LUKS Group. The aim here is to enable transfers to clinical settings and new healthcare solutions.
